Last weekend we took down the side rail to Alex’s crib and within minutes the crib transformed into a toddler bed. Alex was so curious and a bit nervous when he saw Claudio & I working on his bed. He couldn’t quite figure out what was going on until we were completely finished. Even then Alex was still puzzled. Although once he realized how easily he could jump in his “new” bed, he was thrilled! Throughout the day he would run up and jump in, just for the sake of being able to do it. However, when it came time to sleep, he was much less enthused. I tried to get him excited about his bed by explaining that he’s a big boy now and his new bed is one of the perks of being older. He couldn’t have cared less. He insisted on sleeping with the blankets I placed on the floor to prevent an injury if he were to fall out. Regardless of where he was sleeping though, I was just happy he fell asleep in his room with his new freedom to move about as he pleases (shhh! he doesn’t know that yet!).
It’s been three nights since the transition and he started sleeping in his actual bed last night. He looks so cute and grown up in there. As many times as I’ve told Alex he’s a big boy now, I feel like I’m more so saying it to convince myself. It’s funny how something as simple as converting a crib to a toddler bed can seem like such a big rite of passage. It’s bittersweet. My little boy is growing up!
