Claudio surprised me with a trip up to the mountains the weekend following my birthday (Jan. 29-30).
We stayed in a little town called Wengen, which is approximately 2 hours from our apartment. Wengen is car-free, so parked in a town just below (called Lauterbrunnen) and took a wooden train to get up there. One of my favorite things about this town was that we were elevated above the “sea of fog” and had a clear view of the mountains.
We visited two mountains during our stay; the first one was a small mountain called Kl. Scheidegg and the following day we went to the Schilthorn – Piz Gloria (you may recognize the name from the James Bond movie). It took 5 separate cable car rides to reach the tippy top of the Schilthorn, which is also known as the “top of Europe.” We mostly watched others ski/snowboard and were amazed at the parachuters that jump off the cliffs of the mountains. We also enjoyed walking through the little villages at night with the cute little shops and restaurants outlining the streets. It felt like Christmas time all over again with snow on the ground and really enjoyed the trip! I hope Claudio has another great trip planned for my next birthday. 😉
